Ford Ball Valve Curb Stop Suggested Specification
This specification covers Ball Valve Curb Stops with compression service line
connections. The ball valve shall conform to AWWA Standard C800 and latest
revisions regarding thread types and diameters. All cast components shall be
certified waterworks red brass meeting the latest revision of AWWA Standard
C800, AWTM B62 and/or ASTM B584, UNS No. C83600. The alloy described
by this Standard is 85% copper and 5% each of tin, lead and zinc (85-5-5).
The ball shall be flourocarbon coated red brass and shall rotate between two
rubber seats. The water passages through the valve shall be full nominal
diameter with no abrupt changes in size or alignment to disrupt the water flow.
The stem that operates the ball shall exert no other force on it except to turn
the ball, shall be sealed by to EPDM O-rings, and shall be securely held in place
by a bronze ring. The valve shall have a substantial tee head for opening and
closing with a 90 degree rotation of a standard slotted wrench. The stops and
lugs for controlling the tee head rotation shall be enclosed by the tee head skirt.
the service line connections shall be compression connections meeting AWWA
C800 Sec. 4.4.9. The valve shall be watertight in either direction at any
pressure up to 300 PSI.
The Ball Valve Curb Stops shall be as manufactured by The Ford Meter Box
Company, Inc., Wabash, Indiana, or prior approved equal.
